dandelion-seedsThis is one of the most common questions my clients ask me. “When did I ovulate?” they want to know.

The truth is, we’ll never know exactly when we ovulate unless we have an ultrasound scan of our ovaries every day — and who would want to do that?! So how do we know when we’re infertile after ovulation if we can’t actually pinpoint ovulation? If this is true, then how do we know that fertility awareness works?

Luckily for the rest of us, some women have volunteered for ultrasounds, and we know from research that ovulation is highly related to mucus. In fact, ovulation happens about 75% of the time on the Peak Day +/- one day.

This is why it’s so important to learn to classify the difference between peak-type mucus and non-peak-type mucus. I know a lot of women can find this confusing, especially if their cycles aren’t “textbook perfect” (which is most of us really!). There may be a bit of a learning curve, but it’s actually quite simple once you get the hang of it.

We’ll never know exactly when we ovulate so don’t stress about it! Instead remember that by using Peak Day and the count-of-three rule we have a very good, highly accurate, scientific calculation that can be used to prevent pregnancy with over 99% accuracy! So don’t worry about exactly when you ovulated, instead learn to identify your Peak Day and you’ll be set!
