woman carrying heavy boxSince it’s the beginning of a new year, and I know a lot of you are making New Year’s resolutions, and I also know that a lot of resolutions are never kept, I want to help you figure out the best way to improve your health.

At the Justisse College we are fond of saying that achieving hormonal balance is all about lightening the load on the camel’s back. Read on to see some tips on how to do this.

The thing about the “straw that broke the camel’s back” is it was just one straw, but combined with all the other straw it was enough to break the whole system.

Your hormonal health is the same. It’s a delicate balance, and the more we can look at our lives in a holistic way, and see where we might be able to make some tweaks to improve our health, the more we benefit.

Instead of vowing to change your entire diet and lifestyle, because that’s likely to be too overwhelming and very likely to be unsuccessful, I challenge you to just pick one or two small changes you can make that will improve your health.

Things you can think about changing that will have an effect on your hormonal balance are:

  • Getting more and better sleep
  • Getting more exercise
  • Reducing alcohol and caffeine
  • Eating more fruits and vegetables
  • Reducing sugar and processed food intake
  • Reducing stress

Out of all  of these, what are one or two very practical, concrete, steps you can take?

For example, if you want to start exercising, instead of saying you will sign up to go to the gym three times a week, just start with one day a week. Then once you get into the habit, you can up it to two days.

Or, if you want to reduce caffeine, instead of going cold turkey, how about cutting it down to one cup of coffee a day, and any others will be decaf.

Or, if you want to cut out sugar from your diet, start by cutting it out of your tea and only buying chocolate on the weekend.

Of course, you can do more if you want, but you’re far more likely to be successful if you take it in baby steps. Once you’ve conquered one change, add another.

It can be hard to make lifestyle changes, but if you take it in small steps, and focus on the why of why you are doing this and the end result you are hoping for (such as less cramps, lighter flow, regular cycles, or that baby you’ve been trying for), I know you can be successful!
