Close-up Of Smiling Woman Holding Pregnancy TestIt’s a common myth that ovulation happens on day 14 of the menstrual cycle, or 14 days before the next period. In reality each person is different, and ovulation could be anywhere from 9 to 16 days prior to the next period!

In fact, research has shown that miscalculating the fertile phase of the cycle is a big reason a lot of people are supposedly “infertile.” In reality they just got the days wrong!

Here’s an example. A study of 204 women attending a fertility clinic showed that 87% learned about fertility awareness to help them conceive, which is awesome! And 68% thought they had timed sex right for ovulation. But here’s the catch, only 13% actually got it right when identifying the fertile phase of their cycle. That means 55% of women thought they knew when they were fertile but actually got it wrong!

Why might this be? We don’t know where these women were learning their information. Was it from a doctor? An online forum? A trained fertility awareness educator?

The fact is, learning to identify your fertile phase is easy, but there are some common mistakes that people often make when they are first learning. As well, many people stop taking hormonal contraception when they want a baby, and for a lot of people it can take six months to a year to get regular cycles back after this.

If you didn’t know this information you might think you were infertile. The reality is, you are plenty fertile, your body just needs some time to get back into the swing of things, or you just need some support overcoming the common mistakes made when learning to chart menstrual cycles.

Of course some people will need fertility treatments and assisted reproductive technology support, but what if you could avoid all that emotional turmoil from the start? It’s certainly worth exploring your cycle before going through the financial and emotional strain of fertility treatments in case you are one of these people who could benefit from better timing of sex for conception.

My job is to help you get over these hurdles and truly understand your body so you know when your body is ready to conceive and so you know when the best time to get pregnant is. Soon enough you will know exactly when you are fertile and infertile each cycle, and will be an expert of your body’s rhythms.
